Jennifer Bell Company
Jennifer Bell (M.A. Cantab) is a director-composer, specialising in unaccompanied singing. Her compositions have bold narratives that give voice to the unsung struggles of everyday life. Inspired by true stories, testimonials or verbatim text from interviews, she uses song and performance as a form of biography and social commentary.
She and her company have staged concerts at Bristol Proms, RWA, and as part of Mayfest. Her show BREAD & BUTTER has developed into an ongoing arts integration initiative for businesses. She regularly collaborates with other artists as a composer or conductor, to place choral music in unusual locations like working offices, gyms or in the woods. She has worked with all manner of singing voices; from women in prison, to lawyers, to children.
She is currently working in partnership with Westminster, experimenting with compositional pastiche of political discourse and representation, and creating portraits of Parliamentary staff and Parliamentarians, which will be performed as a song tour throughout the Houses of Parliament in November 2015. As a performer, she sings or conducts with a variety of different companies, including her ongoing work in France with Compagnie ON/OFF in ‘SMS: Chante Moi Une Chanson’.
